Apapacho, A Caress for the Soul

After the death of their sister, Estelle and Karine decide to go to Cuicatlán to carry on a family tradition. Once there, they watch preparations for a public celebration in honour of the dead. Their encounter with a different culture helps them cope with their grief with a certain ease. Making the most of Mexico’s picturesque arid landscapes and scenes filmed among the region’s residents – harking back to the director’s roots in documentary – this fictional feature is a funny, luminous, deeply affectionate work.
